Research:
My current research is focused on a variety of interpretive issues related to ancient Maya culture: sociopolitical organization, demography, subsistence, environmental management, economic structure, and warfare studies. I direct an intersite settlement survey project under the auspices the Programme for Belize Archaeological Project (PfBAP). My field research at PfBAP focuses on the settlement patterns between three large Maya centers: Dos Hombres, Gran Cacao, and Great Savannah. It is a holistic-long-term project that focuses on:
- Rural settlement patterns
- Political and socioeconomic organization
- Political landscape
- Utilization of natural resources
- Movement of goods
- Competition of resources
